Encourage Prayer In The Classroom

Prayer At SchoolThe following are resources to help you encourage prayer in the classroom. We have organized these based on U.S. grade level.

Children love singing, arts & crafts, projects, and other fun, engaging activities.

  • Children are often interested in the Rosary beads...show them how to make a Rosary themselves.
  • Let students take turns bringing home a classroom statue or image of Mary.  Mary will be really with them. Encourage them to bring Mary Home and the prayers going!
  • Give students rosary beads to hold onto or let them make their own. Start with simple prayers and they will gradually learn to pray the rosary effectively. (How to pray the Rosary, How to teach the Rosary, How to make a Rosary)
  • Keep a larger set of rosaries for display and teaching in the classroom. (Make Your Own Rosary kit)
  • Engage the students in song, projects, and contests that allow them to be creative in expressing themselves in prayer.
  • Participate in the Try Prayer! It Works! Contest.

Elementary school children love stories...present the Rosary as a story. Again, building a Rosary is also fun. These items can help:

  • How to Pray the Rosary cards, they are inexpensive and the children love them.
  • Our Think Good Thoughts Program is a good tool to teach rosary to younger grades, but info can be adapted to older grades.
  • Once Upon A Time®…The Mysteries of (Joy/Light/Glory/Sorrow) - Have students complete in segments as part of a daily routine, such as when students are settling in for attendance.

Young adults love movies and shows. Our Manifest Mysteries are very popular. These ½ hour DVDs from Family Theater Productions bring Jesus’ stories to life with contemporary stories that relate to teens and the social issues they face.

  • AssumptionsAssumptions - Life had been going well for 15-year-old Mary when her mother, Jessica, becomes pregnant against all expectations. Jessica trusts in God and makes a confident decision to risk her life for a child she does not even know. Based on the Assumption of Our Lady into Heaven, this gripping drama demonstrates how faith can lead us through difficult times.
  • Finding MaryFinding Mary - Adoption - Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary - Jess Cartwright has everything a teen wants – then she finds out she is adopted and demands to know why she was never told.
