Why Pray?

Our Father knows what we need before we ask, but he awaits our petition because the dignity of his children lies in their freedom. (Catechism of the Catholic Church (n.2736).

  • We pray to exercise our free will, our desire to be one with God.
  • We pray to help us be realistic about our limitations and powerlessness.
  • We pray to filter out the distractions of our life, the deceptions, the delusions.
  • We pray to be alert to the realization that we are not alone, but united with others that prayed and are praying.
  • We pray to find the truth and happiness for which we never stop searching.
  • We pray to respond to God’s initiative of love for us and the world.
