April 1, 2007, Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion
“Blessed is he who comes as king in the name of the Lord.” (Luke 19:38)
READINGS:
1. Isaiah 50:4-7
2. Philippians 2:6-11
3. Gospel of Luke 23:1-49
REFLECTION: The first time we saw Jesus riding a donkey was just after his birth; they were riding to save him from death by Herod. On Palm Sunday he rides the donkey in triumph. He enters the city of Jerusalem, the center of the Jewish world. He is the one who has come in the name of the Lord to restore the kingship of David. What made the people change from a rousing welcome to shouts of “Crucify Him!”?
PRAYER: God and Father, we thank you for sending Jesus, your gentle servant into our world. May we live by his example and with his help bring justice into the world of today. Like him, may we cherish even the weakest among us. Amen.
