April 1, 2007, Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion
“Blessed is he who comes as king in the name of the Lord.” (Luke 19:38)
1. Isaiah 50:4-7
2. Philippians 2:6-11
3. Gospel of Luke 23:1-49
REFLECTION: The first time we saw Jesus riding a donkey was just after his birth; they were riding to save him from death by Herod. On Palm Sunday he rides the donkey in triumph. He enters the city of Jerusalem, the center of the Jewish world. He is the one who has come in the name of the Lord to restore the kingship of David. What made the people change from a rousing welcome to shouts of “Crucify Him!”?
PRAYER: God and Father, we thank you for sending Jesus, your gentle servant into our world. May we live by his example and with his help bring justice into the world of today. Like him, may we cherish even the weakest among us. Amen.
As Holy Week begins, display the Holy Psalm in your home. Set up a table with a decorative cloth, the Bible, and a candle.
Set aside some time today to prepare by prayer, reading, and meditation for the Holy Days to come this week.
Pray the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary with the family this evening. Pray for peace in the world.
Holy Thursday. Make every effort to attend the Holy Thursday services in your church. Plan a family meal following the service.
Participate in the communion service in your parish today. Try to pray the Stations of the Cross.
Pray especially today for all those throughout the world who will be baptized at the Vigil tonight.
Father, by shedding his blood for us, your Son, Jesus Christ, established the paschal mystery. In your goodness, make us holy and watch over us always. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
