March 6, 2011, Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time
"Anyone who hears my words and puts them into practice is like one who builds a house on rock." (Matthew 7:24)
READINGS:
1. Deuteronomy 11:18, 26-28, 32
2. Romans 3:21-25, 28
3. Matthew 7:21-27 (Readings Here)
REFLECTION: The ninth Sunday is rare in the liturgical calendar. It relates back to the date when Easter falls in any given year. The date of Easter is determined by the start of spring and the phases of the moon. Easter falls on the first Sunday, after the first full moon, after the spring equinox (start of spring). Anyhow, it is something of an historical event that we observe the Ninth Sunday this year.
PRAYER: Lord, may we live always according to your wise ways. We give you thanks with all our hearts for teaching us your laws. Amen.
FAMILY DISCUSSION/ACTIVITY:
Monday: Talk with the family about the date of Easter and the church’s connection with creation, the stars, moon and sun.
Tuesday: Pray with the family the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary, for the protection of the earth.
Wednesday: Contribute either personally or by a volunteer work or a monetary contribution to a cause that supports the environment.
Thursday: In the first reading this Sunday, Moses is eager to have the people remember the word of God, even to the point of writing it on the wrist or forehead. Spend time today reading the Scripture.
Friday: Pray today asking God to help you keep His words and laws.
Saturday: Ready today an article, book, or internet site on Mary. Recommended site is HCFM.org which will link you to the Mary Page.
PRAYER: Your laws are our peace. May we love and cherish them. Amen.
