April 22, 2007, Third Sunday of Easter
“Simon, son of John, do you love me?” (John 21:16)
READINGS:
1. Acts 5:27-32, 40b-41
2. Revelations 5:11-14
3. Gospel of John 21:1-19
REFLECTION: It is curious that Jesus chose a breakfast as the occasion to reinforce his message to the disciples. Maybe it is at breakfast time of life that the true test of love comes. At the breakfast Jesus begins talking about love. “If you love me,” he says, “you’ll have to expect to do some hard things such as looking after the poor and the weak.” (lambs)
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, you taught your first disciples what it means to live by faith. Teach us to believe in your care for us and others. Amen.
FAMILY DISCUSSION/ACTIVITY:
*Monday*:
Think of a time when your life took an unexpected turn for the better. How did you feel? Did you see God’s hand in this?
*Tuesday*:
Have a special breakfast this week and at it remind the family of Jesus’ breakfast with the disciples and his reminding them of their mission to love.
*Wednesday*:
Jesus told his disciples to feed his lambs and sheep. How do we go about this today?
*Thursday*:
Pray the family rosary tonight for families.
*Friday*:
This month we celebrate Arbor Day. Plant a new tree or give special care to an already existing tree.
*Saturday*:
In memory of the gospel that tells us to feed his lambs, contribute to a food pantry in your area.
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, your loving, strengthening presence is always with us. Day and night, in sickness and health, in good times and bad, you are there. May we draw strength and courage from your living presence. Amen.
