READINGS:

REFLECTION: John came into the world to announce that the Messiah was near. From before his birth he was destined to have this special role. John stands as the greatest example of what it means to prepare for the coming of Jesus into our lives. His words and example can remind us to prepare our hearts for the life of God.
PRAYER: All-powerful God, help us to follow the teachings and example of John the Baptist. May we come to union with you and with your Son.
FAMILY DISCUSSION/ACTIVITY:
*Monday*:
John always said he must decrease and Christ must increase. Do something today to add to another’s peace, even if it means giving up something of self.
*Tuesday*:
John set about his goal of making Christ known. Review your family goals in light of making Christ better known to your own family.
*Wednesday*:
In thinking of John’s birthday, we think of Elizabeth, his mother. Pray the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary today, reflecting on Mary’s visit to Elizabeth.
*Thursday*:
In light of Mary, Elizabeth, John and Jesus, mothers and children, make a contribution of time, talent, or money to an organization that ministers to children.
*Friday*:
Pray today for world and church leaders that they lead their people to peace.
*Saturday*:
Do some reading today about John the Baptist and his mission.
PRAYER: Father, let Jesus increase in us and in our family. Make our selfishness decrease. Help us share more of your spirit with others. Amen.
