June 5, 2011, Seventh Sunday of Easter
"...that they may be one, even as we are one." (John 17:11)
READINGS:
1. Acts 1:12-14
2. 1 Peter 4:13-16
3. John 17:1-11a (Readings Here)
REFLECTION: Jesus told the disciples that after he returned to the Father, they would carry on the work he had begun . . . the work of building up the kingdom of God here on earth. They would go out and change the world. But it wouldn’t be easy for them. They would suffer much in carrying out their mission.
PRAYER: Father, help us to be faithful to the mission that we received in our baptism and reaffirmed in our Confirmation. Amen.
FAMILY DISCUSSION/ACTIVITY:
Monday: At dinner tonight place a bowl of water on the table and pray with the family for all those newly baptized during this Easter time.
Tuesday: Think today of what you suffer personally or in the family in your living of your faith.
Wednesday: Pray the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary today for all those newly baptized and confirmed this Easter time.
Thursday: Spend some time in prayer today to the Holy Spirit.
Friday: Do some reading or provide some reading material in your home about the Holy Spirit. Ideas might be on the symbols of the Holy Spirit or the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Saturday: In preparation for the Feast of Pentecost, read St. John’s Gospel.
PRAYER: God our Father, strengthen us with your Holy Spirit and fill us with your light. We ask this through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.
