June 10, 2007, The Body and Blood of Christ
“Taking the loaves and fishes, Jesus pronounced a blessing over them and gave them to the crowd.” (Luke 9:16)
READINGS:
1. Genesis 14:18-20
2. 1 Corinthians 11:23-26
3. Gospel of Luke 9:11-17
REFLECTION: The Eucharist is more than a personal experience, which it surely can be and is. It is also, and above all, a community experience. Try to imagine the first Eucharist celebration, the Last Supper. Surely the Apostles did not bow their heads in silent adoration from one another. They would probably look at one another and their glances told of wonder and love.
PRAYER: Lord, Jesus, you showed us how to live lives of love. Help us feed each other with gentleness and patience and caring so that our hunger for these things can be satisfied. Amen.
FAMILY DISCUSSION/ACTIVITY:
*Monday*:
In Sunday’s readings we meet Jesus who knows our hungers. Take time to think of what you really hunger for in life.
*Tuesday*:
Think of what ways your family feeds your hunger for love and attention. What way do you fill their needs?
*Wednesday*:
Pray the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary tonight with your family. Pray for those who hunger for God.
*Thursday*:
Make your own bread today with your children; let the children knead the bread. Enjoy the bread at a meal.
*Friday*:
Do something with your family this week to show support of your parish community.
*Saturday*:
Say a special grace this evening thanking God for bread for your body and bread and wine for the spirit.
