Father Robert deLeon, CSC

 Father Robert deLeon, CSC

A native of Albany, N.Y., Father Robert deLeon entered the Congregation of Holy Cross in 1966. He was a Holy Cross Brother for 18 years until he was ordained as a Priest in 1985.

Father deLeon graduated from Stonehill College in Easton, Mass., with a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1971. He received his Master of Liberal Studies in Literature and Arts from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn., in 1978 and his Master of Divinity from the University of Notre Dame in 1985.

From 1971-78, Father deLeon served as a teacher at Cardinal Mooney High School in Rochester, N.Y. He held the same position at Bishop McNamara High School in Forestville, Md., from 1978-81.

Father deLeon pursued clinical training in hospital chaplaincy at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, Mass., in 1979, Children’s Hospital National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., in 1980-81 and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City from 1981-82. He received his Advanced Chaplaincy Certification from the National Association of Catholic Chaplains in 1987.

In 1982-87, Father deLeon served as Chaplain at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in South Bend, Ind. In 1987, he moved to Samaritan Hospital in Troy, N.Y., to become Director of Pastoral Care. In 1990, he was named Director of Pastoral Care at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, Conn.

Father deLeon was appointed to his current position as Chaplain at St. Joseph’s Center in Valatie, N.Y., in 2001. Additionally, he serves as Chaplain at Albany Medical Center, Albany, NY. He writes a regular column, “Soul-Surfing,” for the Holy Cross Family Ministries web site: www.hcfm.org.
