Born in Old Town, Me., on March 5, 1944, Father Raymond was ordained a priest of the Congregation of Holy Cross on April 3, 1971. In 1967, he graduated from Stonehill College in North Easton, Mass., with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. He received a Master of Theology from Notre Dame University in 1971 and a Certificate of Study from the School of Applied Theology in Berkeley, Calif., in 1993.
From 1965-66, Father Raymond was a Holy Cross Novitiate in Bennington, Vt., making his first profession in 1966. He made his profession of final vows at Moreau Seminary in Notre Dame, Ind., where he also was ordained a Deacon in 1970.
Father Raymond was a Religion Teacher at St. Joseph’s High School in South Bend, Ind., in 1970. In 1972, he became Religion Teacher and track-and-field coach at Notre Dame High School in Fairfield, Conn.
In 1974, Father Raymond was appointed Director of Vocations for the Eastern Province of the Congregation of Holy Cross. He joined Stonehill College in 1979, where he served as Director of the Candidate Program and Campus Minister. In 1981, he was named Director of the Holy Cross Center at Stonehill College.
Father Raymond was elected to the National Executive Team of the Catholic Engaged Encounter in 1982, which provides quality marriage preparation primarily for couples who are planning to marry in the Catholic Church. With a married couple, he was responsible for supervising and coordinating this program in approximately 120 dioceses in the United States. He also planned and chaired meetings for the National Board and hosted annual conventions of up to 800 priests and laypeople.
In 1984, Father Raymond was named Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Residence Life at Stonehill College. In 1990, he founded and served as Co-director of the Brockton House of Holy Cross Associates. He became Director of Campus Ministry at Stonehill College in 1991.
Father Raymond went on Sabbatical Renewal in 1992 and studied at the School of Applied Theology, sponsored by the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, Calif. Upon his return, he served as Pastor of St. Francis de Sales in Bennington, Vt.
In 1994, Father Raymond became Assistant Provincial and Vicar. He was named Provincial Supervisor in 1998.
Father Raymond was appointed National Director of Family Theater Productions in 2000. This arm of Holy Cross Family Ministries creates radio and television programs aimed at inspiring, entertaining and educating American families, just as it has since its founding by the Servant of God Father Patrick Peyton, CSC, in 1947. Father Raymond guides the daily operations of Family Theater Productions in its mission of strengthening families by encouraging prayer as a means to family unity and world peace. Family Theater has produced more than 750 dramatic radio programs and more then 60 television specials – dramas, documentaries, variety and interview programs – that have had more than 10,000 broadcasts on independent and network-affiliated stations worldwide.
