Family Prayer

March 14, 2010, 4th Sunday of Lent

“Let us eat and celebrate because this son of mine was dead and has come back to life.  He was lost and is found.” (Luke 15:23-24)

READINGS:
1. Joshua 5:9a, 10-12
2. 2 Corinthians 5:17-21
3. Gospel of Luke 15:1-3, 11-32

REFLECTION:  Is the homecoming of the lost son ever acted out in your life?  Did you say “No”?  Think again:  It is acted out when a child or adult comes to you for approval.  It is acted out when Dad or Mom comes home from a business trip and a special meal is prepared.  It is acted out when we pay special attention to ones who are not always noticed or praised.

PRAYER:  Lord God, help us to overcome the fear and embarrassment that keeps us from saying, “I’m sorry” and “I forgive you.”  Give us the courage and strength to speak the words of forgiveness to one another.  Amen.

FAMILY DISCUSSION/ACTIVITY:

Monday:
Have a special meal to thank and praise family members.

Tuesday:
Spend time in prayer today reflecting on the Gospel of Luke 15:1-3, 11-32.  Ask yourself if you are willing to forgive those who hurt you or your family.

Wednesday:
Pray the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary today for all those who are trying to forgive.

Thursday:
Think today of Mary and say “yes” to whatever you can do to help others in need.

Friday:
Make the Stations of the Cross today.  Try to bring one of the children with you to church to pray with them.

Saturday:
In the spirit of Lent and almsgiving, give to a charity or cause today.

PRAYER:
Lord, all of us hurt and are hurt by others.  Heal our memories and our wounds.  Make new and welcoming spaces in our hearts.  Amen.
