A Rosary Rally for Peace in the spirit of Father Patrick Peyton

In December 1941, the world as we knew it collapsed in just four days. From the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th to the sudden declarations of war on Germany and Japan, the United States was plunged into the chaos of a global conflict. Yet, in the wake of that darkness, a different kind of fire was lit right here in Albany.

On a cold January morning in 1942, a newly ordained Father Patrick Peyton fell to his knees in prayer. While the nation mobilized for war, he mobilized for peace. He didn’t just pray for an end to the fighting; he made a bold plea to Heaven for 10 million Rosary homes. As Venerable Patrick Peyton later said, "God gave me the fire in 1942." He understood then what we rediscover today: that chaos in the world is never just a distant threat… it is at our very doorstep.

Now, his mission is our mission. We stand on the same ground where his legacy began, but we do so in a world that often feels just as fractured as the one he sought to heal. We believe, as he did, that the path to global peace begins around the dinner table.

Though the world may feel cold or hostile, we do not answer with despair; we answer with our beads.

Father Peyton famously taught that "the family that prays together stays together." He knew the Rosary creates a supernatural shield around the home that the world cannot break. By strengthening the family, we build the only true foundation for global peace. Today, in this historic place, we fulfill our mission and reclaim his promise: "A world at prayer is a world at peace."
